Todays Innovations, Tomorrows Technologies, Future Directions g2m
OGC has previously discussed Digital Twin Technologies within the context of Urban environments. A summary of previous discussions is available on the OGC Blog [1]. Recently in Europe, a number of high profile initiatives have been announced (e.g. Digital Twin of the Ocean, Destination Earth - DestinE) that are planned to advance the area of Digital Twin technologies. Further, some of the concepts relating to Digital Twin technologies are already being applied to the Built Environment [4]. Researchers have also suggested the need for a Digital Twin of the Natural Environment, highlighting the following three key challenges that are necessary building blocks of any digital twin: Integration, Interoperability, and Scalability [5]. Given the number and significance of the activities taking place around the topic of Digital Twin technologies, the June 2022 session on Today's Innovations, Tomorrow's Technologies, and Future Directions will focus on the theme of Digital Twins of the Environment.
